Sad day! Just thank goodness we have a "checks and balance" system. He shouldn't be able to get much done!

I agree 100%!! Thank you for saying it. Like I just said on your Mom's blog I would feel better about the whole thing if the house and senate didn't have the democratic majority vote.

One time a lady I know from Canada told me that canadians think we as Americans are all stupid and when things like this happen I agree.

That's my two cents worth, I am sure lots of people would disagree and I won't feel bad if you want to delete this comment.

Sad day? Are you serious? Is your own patriotism so narrow-minded as to not see (at the very least) the beautiful symbolism of what an Obama presidency represents? In a country where African Americans were relegated to the back of the bus and interracial marriage was against the law as recently as 40 years ago, we have just elected a Black man to the presidency!

Obama may not share your personal political ideology, but is it not worth it to try and see the good in the man, in what his presidency represents, and to hope that he will listen to divergent points of view that challenge his own in shaping domestic and foreign policy?

Concerning the Young family's comment that Canadians think American are stupid. Generally speaking, Canadians (along with Europeans, Asians, and Latin Americans) think America is stupid because of leaders like President Bush. While that may not be a fair view to hold, it is important to note that the international community loves Obama, and his presidency will certainly heal strained foreign relations throughout the world.

Russ and Emily Jones, do you feel that only fanatics support Obama? Are there level-headed, thoughtful, intelligent people who sincerely support the man? Or does simply supporting him destroy their credibility?

Haha, I think YOU are a bit narrow minded to think that I don't think it is a great thing that America has gotten to a point where they can elect an African American president. I think it is a great thing that has happened. I just don't like HIM. I don't like his policies, the way he will run the government, etc. The color of his skin has nothing to do with it. Nothing at all. I would have said the same thing (Sad Day) whether it had been Hilary Clinton, Al Gore, or any other Democrat elected into office.

Not to start a war on your blog Halley, but when is it a proud day for us when Europe and other countries love us! Are we in a popularity contest, is this High school?

I think it is interesting that democrats think that only republicans are narrow minded.

I won't feel bad if you delete this one either :)

Haha, Im not going to delete anything unless it gets nasty.

I totally agree with you though. We don't need the rest of the world to love us, just respect us. And yes to the narrow mindedness too.

Why is it when someone doesnt like Obama it is automatically assumed that its because of his race? We (you) arent ill informed and I highly doubt your opinion would be based on something so trivial. Anyway...I dont necessarily think it's a "sad day" but I wasnt rooting for Obama...itll be an interesting next few years:)

Wow! Look at the comments you got here! Do you know Patrick or is it his job to go to blogs and make comments like this? I wonder . . . Anyhow, living in an area where the population is AT LEAST 50% black, and my children are the only white kid in their school classes and their school buses, and you were raised here also, YOU of all people know what this means to the "african americans." It is a great day in that regard. If we'd all consider ourselves just plain old "americans" we'd be a lot better off. I lived in fear of putting a silly little McCain/Palin sticker on my car. The fear was REAL. I know people who did it and suffered the consequenses. Lauren's car got the windows smashed in. One of my students reported having the bird flipped at them all the time, and people trying to run them off the road. Nasty notes being left on cars. Pretty interesting times.

One good thing (for me) is that I don't get the gag reflex when I look at Obama. He seems to be a great guy. He seems sincere. I just don't like his policies, they are very dangerous to our country. I do get the gag reflex for the Clinton's, Gores, Kerry's and others though. Again, pretty interesting times!

I have no idea who Patrick is, but he didn't hurt my feelings. I know where I stand on the issue and he can't change that.

I didn't know that Lauren's car windows got smashed, that is terrible.

I agree about him being a good man. He truly believes what he is doing is good. Im just scared for the counntry!
